After the damage caused by fireworks on July 4th, several legislators opened bill files to make changes in Utah’s liberal fireworks laws.
I am going to set my bill aside and support Rep. Marie Poulson’s fireworks bill. On July 4th, in her legislative district 46, 25 acres with two homes and one outbuilding burned because of fires caused by fireworks. One home was almost completely destroyed. I’m happy to talk with you about the issue, but please include Rep. Poulson in the discussion.
I received many thoughtful, careful comments and ideas, which I will forward to Rep. Poulson. I appreciate everyone who weighed in and contributed to the dialogue on fireworks in Utah, no matter what your opinion is on the issue. For the most part, it has been a very civil conversation, which I appreciate.
In the words of Sgt. Phil Esterhaus, (Hill Street Blues), “Let’s be careful out there.”
